Shoot Pigs Dont They? is a low-budget comic satire about
a serious political ambition: anarchy and revolution. Tormented
by constant symbols of past revolutions, Yvonne envisions the
takeover of ABC television by the "Women Attack Pigs revolutionary
coalition " (WAP). The group broadcasts a manifesto condemning
police brutality and prejudice and advocates mass resistance
to arrest. New York erupts into slapstick chaos. The police
are not safe on the streets they purport to protect, as the
women engage in a full-on attack. But revolutions dont
happen in a day and they are forced to hijack a plane and flee
to Berlin for refuge.
FESTIVALS "They
Shoot Pigs Don't They?" premiered at the 1989 Low Budget
Film Festival in Hamburg and was subsequently shown at festivals
around the world. It was a recently part of a group show exhibition
on Super-8 at the Dunlop Gallery in Regina, Saskatchewan. It became a cult hit in the underground European and American scene and was part of the MOMA retrospective of Penelope Buitenhuis shorts entitled GUNS AND GUERILLAS. CREDITS
